The Mynabirds, solo project of Nebraska-native Laura Burhenn, can best be described as sweltering. What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood has the songstress hinting at the Memphis blues (something akin to Dusty Springfield or recent Cat Power), conjuring up images of sticky Nebraska nights and Sunday morning church meetings alike. Check out the rollicking "Let the Record Go" or the simmering semi-title track "What We Gained in the Fire."
